This original oil on canvas painting by Pierre Bittar is an exquisite landscape created in his remarkable plein-air style. His strokes are bold and expressive, while his color scheme is soft and inviting. Two tall trees frame a view of the water with its boats and pier. The lack of leaves on the tree to the left and the softness of the color pallet, hint that it might be early Fall. This work is an quintensessial Pierre Bittar landscape, inviting you in as a voyeur. His renowned impressionist style on this work shines through, as with all his works, original or limited edition.
Bittar’s father was a musician; his mother a descendant of the House of Savoie. In 1939 his parents encouraged him to draw and color. From 1940 – 1952 he visited museums and painted, studying techniques of the great masters. Among his favorite artists were Rembrandt, the Impressionists in general, and Monet in particular. In 1953 Bittar’s father passed. To support his mother he took employment with NCR, a multinational data processing company. He continued his studies at night at the Academie Leonard de Vinci. In 1956 he completed his studies at the Academie LdV. He painted plein-air in the company of his professor and began to paint portraits using himself and his mother as subjects. In 1963 he has his first exhibition at the Potterat Gallery in Lausanne, Switzerland. Many more were to follow until he was represented in the US by notable galleries. His career continues strongly today as he is still receiving many honors and his work is still being added to private collections all over the World.
