Duet: A Spiritual Song of Love is actually 2 separate half life size sculptures in acrylic by Frederick Hart. Each sculpture measures 24" x 17" x 6" ; one a male figure and the other a female figure. When placed together in a setting, it appears that they were once one piece but have been separated...two parts of one whole. The male figure has a shadow of the female behind him and the female figure has a shadow of the male behind her.

These two sculptures not only represent the male and female energies but also reflect the love between these two figures. Frederick Hart was not only a veryrepresentational sculpture whose work recalls the figurative tradition of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, but he was also a very sensual sculptur whose work idealized the relationship between males and females.

This particular work is very reminescent of his work Ex Nihilo, which was the bas relief that Frederick Hart created for the Western Facase of the National Cathederal in Washington, DC. His introduction of Duet: A Spirtual Song of Love into his collection of acrylic sculptures only solidified his place as the foremost American Sculptor.

These sculptures work well placed together or individually...as each sculpture stands on its own very well. They tell a story of love between the male and female sculptures in a deeply emotional way. The lighting of these sculptures also changes the mood and temperament of the works. Back lighting, upper and lower lighting create different scenarios.
